Spring 2008: Contact teachers at Our Town High School and community representatives for senior center.

 

 

April 2008:  Schedule 4 professional storytellers for October Kick-Off.

 

 

August 2008: Promotional materials created for Our Community: a Bridge through Time.

 

 

September 1-5, 2008: Promotional materials distributed for Our Community: a Bridge through Time.

 

 

Friday, October 3, 2008: Our Community: A Bridge through Time Kick-off.  Four professional storytellers come and present the art of storytelling plus personal stories in one day, two storytellers presenting in the afternoon at the high school and two presenting in the evening at the library. Surveys evaluating the event are distributed to and collected from all attendees.

 

 

Saturday, October 11 & Saturday, October 18, 2008: Two workshops are presented at the Our Town Library. The community learns how to ask the questions and then record the answers into a story, with the Teen Librarian, High School English, Social Studies and History teachers facilitating the event, but also using local community professionals.

 

 

October 20, 2008 – January 31, 2009: Students collect stories from older adults, either family members or other community members. During this time at least two ‘meet and greet’ sessions will be set up at Our Town Senior Center and the Our Town Library.  Students will have a chance to meet elders who are willing and able to participate in the program. After introductions, an overview of the process of interviewing and recording stories will be presented and students will have time to chat with their elder partner individually.

 

 

February, 2009: Promotional materials for Our Community: A Bridge through Time Finale are distributed.

 

 

February 7, March 7 & April 4, 2009: Three workshops will be presented at Our Town Library the first Saturday of the following three months  to help those who have collected stories turn them into oral presentations.

 

 

February, March and April 1-10 2009:  Students at Our Town High School write and practice the oral presentations of the stories they have collected. Students will use class time, as well as present their collected stories on prearranged dates to younger students and at the Our Town Community Center and at other senior venues.

 

 

Saturday, April 18, 2009: Our Community: A Bridge Through Time Finale. In celebration of the final day of National Library Week, students will present their collected stories to the community at the Our Town Library. Surveys evaluating the event are distributed to and collected from people attending.

 

 

April 20-24, 2009: Surveys distributed to and collected from participating students.

 

 

April 20 – June 30, 2009: Recorded stories are preserved and archived at Our Town Library.  A selection of stories will be made available on Our Town Library Website. Surveys will be analyzed and success of program evaluated.
