New Outdoor Training Requirements
To fulfill Safety-Wise requirements, each troop must ensure that one adult has been trained by the council in managing the group camping experience. This adult must be involved in the planning process and must accompany the troop on an overnight, outdoor trip. To ensure the safety of Girl Scouts on camping trips, GSCI will take a more active role in ensuring this requirement has been met. Effective June 1, 2009, GSCI requires each troop taking an overnight, outdoor trip to verify either on GSCI facilities form or on the Trip Approval form that they will be accompanied by an adult who has taken Basic Outdoor Training. Volunteers who have previously taken Girl Scout outdoor training, or have camped at GSCI camps/facilities are considered to have completed the required learning elements of the training and are encouraged, but will not be required to attend GSCI's current Basic Outdoor Training.
Additional Basic Outdoor Training courses will be added to the training schedule in selected areas to encourage adults who have not experienced this fun and rewarding training to become better acquainted with the rich tradition of Girl Scout troop/group camping. Register for the Basic Outdoor Training through your local regional service center.
Early Membership Registration for 2009-2010 Girl Scout Year

Packets are being assembled and will be taken to the April and/or May service area meetings by your Community Development Coordinator. If you are unable to attend either one of these meetings, your troop packet will be available at your local regional service center for pick-up. On-Time Registration is from June 16, 2009 to September 30, 2009. If you register your troop within this time, your troop will receive a patch for every girl registered. Girl Scout Appreciation Coupon for Dairy Queen
Once again, Dairy Queen is partnering with Girl Scouts! With the introduction of Dairy Queen's Girl Scout Thin Mint Blizzard last year, it became the number-one selling blizzard in Dairy Queen's history! This year, Dairy Queen introduces another Girl Scout favorite: the Tagalongs Peanut Butter Patties Blizzard Treat! To roll out this new treat to Girl Scouts across the country, Dairy Queen is hosting Girl Scout Appreciation Week July 20-26. Girl Scout troops are welcome to contact their local Dairy Queen to schedule a tour of their facilities during Girl Scout Appreciation Week. Not only will the girls get a first-hand look at how the business is run, they also will learn how to make Dairy Queen's signature ice cream cone. Dairy Queen has provided resources to enhance your troop's experience during Girl Scout Appreciation Week. Dairy Queen will feature the Thin Mint Cookie Blizzard Treat in August.

United We Serve
Be a part of a nationwide initiative. United We Serve kicks off June 22, 2009, and culminates with a National Day of Service and remembrance on September 11, 2009. Girl Scout troops are urged to participate in this monumental event. The Corporation for National and Community Service is coordinating the effort. This is an extraordinary moment in time. As an American, we have a unique opportunity to come together and solve our nation's most vexing problems. In this spirit, President Obama has announced a nationwide service initiative, the beginning of a sustained, collaborative, and focused effort to meet community needs and make service a way of life for all Americans.
This project will promote and highlight new and existing service projects, encourage volunteers to stay involved in their communities over time, and empower people from all walks of life to take a leadership role. GSCI encourages everyone to take part in this extraordinary call to service. For more information on this event follow this link:
