Digital
humanities (also known as humanities computing, or digital
scholarship)
is broadly defined as the teaching, learning, and researching
of humanities subjects via computing or computational tools. It
is a research approach that
embraces an array of activities, including--but not limited
to--electronic publishing, text encoding, as well as data archiving,
mining,
and visualization. Typical subjects
covered by digital humanities are art, history, linguistics,
literature, music, and pedagogy.
This
guide serves as
an
introduction to digital humanities research. Geared toward
students and
faculty, its purpose is to:
- help
users locate books and articles about digital
humanities at the UIUC Main Library
- educate
them about some of the tools used in the field
- reference
a few current digital
humanities projects
as examples and inspiration
- suggest
possible courses to take at the Graduate School of
Library and Information Science in order to learn more about digital
humanities research
