Sample Exercise
Using Effects on Dr. Who Audio Clips

For this exercise I am using various audio clips provided by the official BBC website
for the television show Dr. Who
starring David Tennant (http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/s4/audio/). I manipulated each clip in Audacity
and used the indicated effects provided.
Season 4: Episode 7 "The Unicorn and the Wasp"
Dr. Who (David Tennant) Agatha Christie clip:
- Original: drwhomurder.wav
- New: drwhomurder_new.wav
- How I did it:
I selected the first section and changed
the speed to -28. Then I selected the middle part which
was just noise between the talking. I then clicked on noise removal. I selected "Get
noise profile." Once I had my noise profile I selected the rest
of what the Doctor said (that hadn't been modified yet). This
took out some of the noise. Then I selected the part of the audio
where Dr. Who says, "Solving a murder mystery with Agatha Christie,"
and changed the pitch from G
up to A (frequency of 196 to 220.003). Next, I selected where he
says "Brilliant!" This section I repeated
the clip 10 times and then selected the last 6 and faded them out.

Season 2: Episode 2 "Tooth and
Claw"
Werewolf Howling Clip:
- Original: drwho_howl.wav
- New: drwho_howl_new.wav
- How I did it: I wanted to do
several things with this clip so the first thing I did is I repeated the clip 3 times (for a
total of 4 howling sections to manipulate). I changed the pitch of the first clip
up A# to G# (frequency of 958.696 to 3369.965, or 251% change).
The second howling section I reversed
and then I changed the speed
of the third,
which changes both tempo and pitch, to -60% of the original clip.
Between the second and third clip I faded
in and faded out each
clip,
respectively. The fourth clip I used the phaser. I pushed it to
completely wet (LFO frequency 4.0, LFO start phase 360, depth
255). I decided on a rate of 10% feedback.

Season 2: Episode 3 "School Reunion"
Mr. Finch (Anthony Stewart Head) Do Try the Chips Clip:
- Original: drwhochips.wav
- New #1: drwhochips_new.wav
- New #2: drwhochips_new2.wav
- How I did it:
With this clip I just wanted to do one manipulation, but two different
ways. The first time I changed
the pitch from C# to B by selecting B on the drop down
list. This changed the frequency to 7857.727 Hz (originally
3675.000 Hz). The second time I changed
the pitch from the slider bar. I slid it to 3307.500 Hz,
or a -25% change.
Thank you for listening.
